By D.D. John HaywardAuthor: D.D. John Hayward. Heaven's Gates, Hell's Flames is a touring evangelistic drama that has been performed worldwide. Inventing Hell discusses the question of Hell and eternal torment through the lens of Dante's Inferno. Sweeney argues that much of what people believe about Hell since the Medieval period comes from Dante and examines Dante's influences from Greek mythology and philosophy to the Qur'an (perhaps) and Thomas Aquinas/5.

If hell only existed to destroy the wicked so that they ceased to exist, then why would the Bible say that hell’s fire is everlasting (Matthew, ) eternal – (Jude ) unquenchable (Matthew ) and the fire that never shall be quenched – (Mark44, 45, 46, 48).

There’s an excellent book on eternal damnation titled Two Views of Hell by Edward Fudge and Robert Peterson. The view of everlasting destruction is presented by Mr. Fudge and he does a great job as his case rests totally on Scripture, which, of course, is the proper way a defense of any Christian doctrine should be conducted.

Pastor Doug: And that of course is Revelation When you put all these Scriptures side by side, it seems like the bulk of evidence is on the side that the wicked are not immortalized in hell, so that 50 billion years from now they’re still burning, and they’ve just begun.

Pastor Doug: The history of that doctrine can be traced to the Dark. That is right. You have something in you right now that is eternal--without beginning or end. It is the Spirit of God. It is a part of God Himself.

It is the life of God. Now if a sinner is going to go to hell and then suffer the same as you are going to heaven and enjoy heaven, then.

The history of this wild hypothesizing is the subject of Bart Ehrmans latest book, Heaven and Hell: A History of the Afterlife.

Ehrman is in a unique position to tell the story. As a New Testament scholar, hes spent his entire career critically examining the Bible and the development of early Christianity/5.

And that brings us to the fourth truth -- hell is an everlasting state. Though some would like to shorten the duration of this state, Jesus' words are very clear. He uses the same adjective to describe both punishment and life in verse If hell is not eternal, neither is the new heaven and earth.

" + The Great Separation (at Ligonier). Pastor Wagner teaches that hell is a place of eternal torment in flames where the wicked go upon death. For the complete outline used for this video, see: ht.

Quick Thoughts on Why Hell Must be Eternal. There is at least one main reason why Hell must be eternal. That the pains of Hell are eternal is, of course, part of the faith.

Jesus makes that quite clear in numerous places (Mt. ; Mark ). It's dogmatically reaffirmed by the Catholic Church. For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation. 5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.

7 But. This study, which is the first to incorporate archaeological evidence of early modern death and burial from across Britain and Ireland, addresses new questions about the materiality of death: what the dead body means, and how its physical substance could be attributed with sentience and even by: One view of hell that seems to be making a strong resurgence today among evangelicals is Annihilationism.

There are slight variations, but it essentially. The Bible is very emphatic that there is an eternal and literal heaven and hell. God is eternal in nature and everything He does has eternal consequences. Heaven refers to His ‘place of existence’ therefore it must be as eternal as God Himself.

Lucifer committed an eternal sin worthy of eternal punishment. Conclusion: Hell is Everlasting Destruction not Eternal Torment As pointed out a couple of times in this study, the doctrine of eternal torment is the silent subject of the church.

Did Jesus Teach Eternal Bliss In Heaven or Eternal Torment In a Fiery Hell Blog and discussion about the teachings of Jesus Christ. Focus is on what he taught and what His Father in heaven. That is why he never protested or questioned being in hell. The realities of eternal damnation, eternal hell, and eternal punishment are frightening and disturbing.

But it is good that we might, indeed, be terrified. While this may sound grim, there is good news. God loves us (John ) and wants us to be saved from hell (2 Peter ).

Post 1: Thu pm Eternal Heaven and Eternal Hell Like this post This post is directed at Christians* who believe that the final destiny of all mankind is to reside in an eternal heaven with God or apart from God in an eternal hell of fire and torment.

Hell has been depicted as a lake of fire, eternal torment, and everlasting punishment. Because of the heinous nature of hell, many have decided that it is impossible for a loving God to conceive such a place, much less send His wayward creatures there.

For this reason, they have rejected the idea of an eternal hell. Hell Part 1: Assurance of Eternal Torment for the Lost Matthew McGee.

The Eternity of the Hells. by Rev. Prescott A. Rogers [The] Lord Jesus Christ came to earth in order to save the human race.

He did this by subjugating the hells, by glorifying His Human, by judging the Israelitish Church and establishing the Christian Church, and by reordering heaven (see Doctrine of the Lord 3).In doing these things the Lord benefited every human being that had ever lived.

Hell: The Real Eternal Flame First, we must realize that hell is a real place. Hell isn’t like the planet Krypton, It‘s easy to go through life-giving little, if any, thought to the reality of heaven or hell.

Sadly, millions will do just that. Life is about choices. Don’t. If an unsaved sinner is willing to go to the eternal lake of fire in order to do what he or she wants to do on earth, he/she deserves to be eternally punished. People are real. Animals are real. Time is real.

Spirits are real. Therefore, everything else (heaven or hell) seen or unseen is real. “Ahaz was twenty years king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do right in the sight of the Lord as David his father had done [Ahaz was a descendant of King David].But he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel; he also made molten images for the Baals [false gods].Moreover, he burned incense in the valley of Ben-hinnom and burned his sons in fire, according.

First of all, the Scripture is quite clear that hell is indeed everlasting. Jesus leaves the psychic burden intact.

Yes, Scripture speaks of hell as “death” and “destruction” but defines these in terms of a place where “they will be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Rev. Question: "Is hell real. Is hell eternal?" Answer: It is interesting that a much higher percentage of people believe in the existence of heaven than believe in the existence of hell.

According to the Bible, though, hell is just as real as heaven. The Bible clearly and explicitly teaches that hell is a real place to which the wicked/unbelieving are sent after death.

The Question: What does the Bible actually say about Hell and eternal punishment. Would God really send someone to Hell for an eternity of torture, because that just seems the absolute opposite of goodness and love regardless of what those people did to ‘deserve’ punishment in their lifetimes.

This is an excellent question that many Christian’s. “All the gods, all the heavens, all the hells, are within you.” — Joseph Campbell. For the final post in this week-long series on Joseph Campbell, we have another example of an observation by the scholar that is applicable to the writing process on multiple levels, all of which point to one inescapable fact: The single best way to avoid “formulaic” and “flat” stories is by going.Introduction: B.

J. Clarke Introduction Statistics clearly show that modern man does not view the subject of hell in the same way as men of even 50 years ago. There are definitely ever changing attitudes toward hell.
